Domestic auto sales flat in November

By Ed Brayton | 12.02.09 | 7:23 am

The November domestic auto sales numbers are out and the word ‘flat’ describes them perfectly. Total domestic sales were up a miniscule 35 cars over November, 2008 on volume of more than 747,000 purchases. Ford sales were dead even at zero percent, while GM’s sales fell 2 percent. Chrysler took the worst hit with a 25 percent decline.

The yearly adjusted rate would be about 10.5 million cars sold, which industry insiders are calling the “new normal” for auto sales. That’s down from 13.2 million units sold in 2008 and an average of 16.4 million annually for the early part of the decade.
