DETROIT — Former Detroit City Council president pro-tem Monica Conyers will be sentenced on Dec. 1 after admitting to bribery charges this summer.
Conyers, who is the wife of U.S. Rep. John Conyers Jr., faces up to five years in prison for accepting money in exchange for a vote on a waste treatment contract, The Detroit Free Press reports.
Conyers pleaded guilty in June after a federal probe outed her and Synagro businessman Rayford Jackson for committing conspiracy and bribery. As part of a plea deal, Conyers is only charged with one count of conspiracy to commit bribery. Conyers resigned from her post one week after being convicted.
U. S. District Judge Avern Cohn is set to sentence Conyers.
