It’s going to be wall-to-wall hair plugs today, a continuous stream of Joe Biden, every mainstream media news outlet trying to overcome the obvious fact that it was cut out of the loop by the Obama campaign with the announcement of the Democratic veep selection by text message.

They’ll try to redirect your attention from Wolf Blitzer’s pleading for viewers to stay tuned for coverage of a text message, or Associated Press reporting showing a snapshot of the text message itself on some reporter’s phone.

Pathetic.

So let’s change the subject and look at the other side of the political aisle; what’s going on with the other abuser of teeth-whitener, Mitt “Mittens” Romney? Late in the week there was new buzz about Mittens’ chance for the GOP veep slot, as if to draw attention away from Gov. Tim Pawlenty of Minnesota as a likely candidate.

And of course, earlier in the week there had been buzz about Ron Portman of Ohio after word that a large venue in or near Hamilton County was being reserved for Aug. 29 by Republican Party apparatchiks. And then the week before the hubbub about Tom Ridge of Pennsylvania and the incessant harangue by social conservatives about Mike Huckabee. Is Mittens merely the flavor du jour for the GOP — yet one more float in the parade of veep candidates?

Checking the Google Trends crystal ball, I’d have to say that he’s got a decent shot. Probably 50-50 with Pawlenty. But I wouldn’t put any money on it. Really, who knows what the next float in this parade will bring?

I’ll bet there won’t be any mainsteam media coverage of text message announcements, though.
