Averting a strike of Detroit’s three casinos, workers at Motor City Casino reached a tentative deal with the Detroit Casino Council. The Free Press reports that “The Detroit Casino Council, made up of members of the United Auto Workers, Hotel Employees and Restaurant Employees union, International Union of Operating Engineers, Teamsters and Carpenters, represents approximately 6,100 employees at the city's three casinos.”
According to the Detroit News, the main points of the contract include,
*A four percent raise over the life of the three-year contract
*Increased 401(k) matching by the employers
*Frozen health care costs
Unlike MGM Grand and Greektown, the Detroit Casino Council had more issues to hammer out with Motor City. On Wednesday, Motor City faced an 11:59am deadline and began the shut down process, in preparation of a strike. The deal was leaked out shortly after 5pm Wednesday.
Detroit ranked fifth last year in casino markets with $1.3 billion in annual revenue.
