DETROIT โ If a recent poll is correct, city council candidate Charles Pugh has a good chance of being the next city council president, or the candidate with the highest number of votes.
With the Nov. 3 election just three weeks away, the poll, conducted by East Lansing based Practical Political Consulting, put Pugh ten percentage points ahead of current city council president Kenneth Cockrel Jr., the Detroit News reports. The poll used automated calls to survey a sample of 1,000 likely Detroit voters.
Of that sample, 70 percent said they supported Charles Pugh, and 60 percent said Kenneth Cockrel Jr.
Former police chief and whistle blower Gary Brown came in third with 56 percent.
Of the 18 candidates running for a seat on the 9 member council, five are incumbents.
And while three of those incumbents have a place in the top 9, two of them are not faring well. Lagging in the race are incumbents JoAnn Watson in 11th place and Alberta Tinsley-Talabi in 15th.
