Central Michigan University student Vanessa Oblinger, whose blog on underage drinking at the Republican Policy Conference last month, has sent a letter of apology to Ann Arbor business man and GOP candidate for governor apologizing for the furor over her blog post.
Sources in the Snyder campaign confirm the letter is authentic and has been received by the campaign. It began appearing on the Internet Oct. 10.
The full letter follows:
Date: Fri, Oct 9, 2009 at 12:29 PM
Subject: Dear Rick Snyder
Dear Mr. Snyder,
It was with great regret when I read the Detroit News story this morning that implied your campaign had anything to do with my blog posting. That couldn’t have been further from the truth. The fact is, when I tried to attend your gathering on Saturday night, I was turned away at the door because I was not 21. Even more so, the only gubernatorial parties I attended were ones hosted by Attorney General Mike Cox and Sheriff Mike Bouchard. While I am not willing to discuss this with the media, I do think it is important that the record is set straight on this matter.
Sincerely,
Vanessa Oblinger
Oblinger’s original Sept. 28 post caused a stir and lead Michigan Democratic Party Chair Mark Brewer to call for an investigation. Several news outlets, including WLNS the CBS affiliate in Lansing, have since reported the Liquor Control Commission has begun to investigate allegations of underage drinking at various political events on the island Sept. 25 and 26.
