Shut down!

LANSING — Just before midnight, the Michigan Senate voted 20-16 to adjourn the session, effectively assuring a governmental shut down.

The Republican-controlled Senate will reconvene at 12:15 a.m. That’s 15 minutes after the state was supposed to have passed a balanced budget. But the Senate adjourned without considering a continuing resolution they passed on Friday afternoon saying it was the right thing to do to avoid a shut down, and without moving to adopt several conference committee reports and sending them to Gov. Jennifer Granholm for her signature.
