Poll results released Friday from a statewide survey shows Republican Attorney General Mike Cox leading Democratic Lt. Gov. John Cherry by 13 percentage points in the 2010 race for governor.

The poll results reflect a survey of 600 likely voters around the state conducted by Mitchell Research & Communications Inc., The Detroit News reports.

A separate poll conducted by the same company with a sample of 209 republican voters shows Cox leading by 30 percent, with U.S. Rep. Pete Hoekstra right behind with 23 percent support.

Although Cherry is seen as the frontrunner for the Democratic nomination, he has not yet officially joined the race.
