Bouchard names Land as his 2010 running mate

By Ed Brayton | 09.16.09 | 10:23 am

Oakland County Sheriff Mike Bouchard has named Secretary of State Terri Lynn Land as his running mate in a bid for the Republican nomination for governor in 2010. Until a few months ago Land was considered a likely prospect to run for governor herself, but when she announced that she would not run she endorsed Bouchard for the job.

The pick does make some political sense. It gives the ticket East/West balance, with Bouchard having his power base in the Southeast portion of the state and Land in the West side. But it may be that Land’s statement that she did not run for governor because she lacked experience in fiscal matters will come back to haunt her as she runs for the spot a heart beat away from the job she admitted to not being qualified for in June.
