Former Lansing transgender politician threatens to sue Twitter

By Todd A. Heywood | 08.25.09 | 3:37 pm

Melissa Sue Robinson, a candidate for mayor in the Idaho town of Nampa, has threatened to sue the social networking site Twitter over a false account created in her name. The account allegedly posted lewd things in her name, she claims.

Robinson claims the Twitter folks allowed an unknown individual to create an account using her name and the identification of WomanWithAPenis. She told the Idaho Fox affiliate that her complaints to Twitter went unanswered. But the account has since been disabled by Twitter officials. Robinson’s original Twitter account remains active.

Robinson, who is from Michigan and was born Charles Stalens Jr., is an also-ran politician. She ran for the State House 68th District in 2003 and the State Senate 23rd District in 2006. Both seats represent portions of Ingham County and Lansing. She also ran for Mayor of Lansing in 2003. Robinson sued the state alleging that a law forcing her to identify her previous name was unfair and fed into discrimination against transgender people.

According to a blogspot post by Robinson she left Michigan in Feb. 2008 after her house was repossessed. She moved to Seattle, then to Nampa, ID.

This is Melissa Sue Robinson and I didn't move to Seattle in 2008, it was January of 2007. I also sold the house in Lansing before that, to a relative who took over payments and proceeded to let it go back. I had to leave Lansing because of its very bad economy (an economy that went into severe recession in 2001 and never recovered).I worked for SBC/ATT until they closed there Lansing office, and I was forced to go to work in Seattle in order to find a decent job. This can all be checked out. My employer Qwest Communications will verify that I started there in Jan of 07, and couldn't be in Lansing as that is 2400 miles away.
