LANSING — State Rep. Phil Pavlov wants to prevent the federal government from interfering with the rights of Michigan gun owners.
The St. Clair Township Republican introduced legislation, HB 5232, this week which would remove any firearm manufactured and sold in Michigan from federal regulatory oversight.
In a statement, after noting the “national threats to weaken our second amendment rights,” Pavlov said:
Today we stand as the founders’ envisioned, with states controlling their own destiny within their borders. But the federal government has greatly expanded its reach into areas that it shouldn’t and we are here to defend what belongs to Michigan.
Since Barack Obama became president, many gun owners have claimed his administration intends to restrict weapon sales.
