Brewer blasts Snyder as he announces bid for governor

By Ed Brayton | 07.22.09 | 12:08 am

Michigan Democratic Party Chairman Mark Brewer came out swinging after the announcement by Rick Snyder that he would run for the Republican nomination for governor in 2010, issuing a blistering press release attacking Snyder for sending American jobs overseas when he was the CEO of Gateway Computers:

“All you need to do is look at Rick Snyder’s record to know he is Dick DeVos Junior,” Michigan Democratic Party Chair Mark Brewer said. “Snyder and his Wall Street friends made an enormous amount of money while wrecking the economy and sending American jobs overseas. That’s not the type of leadership we need in Michigan.”

“Rick Snyder’s bio reads just like DeVos and George W. Bush,” Brewer said. “He thinks he has all the answers simply because he has an MBA. Bush thought the same thing and look where that got us.”

Thousands of American jobs were sent to China while Snyder was a director of the computer company Gateway.

Gateway is now owned by Taiwan-based Acer Inc., but that sale happened a decade after Snyder left the company. A Snyder spokesman denied the charge when Brewer originally made it, several weeks before Snyder announced he was running.
