By Staff Report | 11.16.11

I am writing today to announce the closure of the Michigan Messenger. After four years of operation in Michigan, the board of the American Independent News Network, has decided to shift publication of its news into a single site, The American Independent at Americanindependent.com. Stay classy, young Republicans

By Ed Brayton | 07.15.09 | 12:16 am

Here’s another entry in the pattern of racist statements from prominent young Republican activists mentioned in an earlier article. David Weigel of our sister site, the Washington Independent, catches this statement from Jason Mattera, spokesman from Young America’s Foundation, on his Twitter feed:

“If Sotomayor gained life experience from The Ghetto, does that mean she’d have a tendency to shank Scalia?”

Mattera’s bio at the YAF webpage calls him “the surprisingly fresh face of conservatism” and says that he “has spoken at conferences and schools across the US, written for many conservative publications, including Human Events, National Review Online, and Townhall.com, and represented young conservatives on television’s ‘Hannity and Colmes,’ ‘Fox & Friends,’ ‘Hardball,’ ‘Washington Journal’ and on dozens of radio shows including the Sean Hannity, Mike Gallagher, and Michael Reagan programs.” Fresh face indeed.

The Young America’s Foundation is a different organization than Young Americans for Freedom.

It's nice to see that the Repubs have a minor league program to groom future leaders. Once they get to the majors they can really tee off on the competition. Just look at alum Pat Buchanan's call for Todd Palin to “hold Levi Johnson's head under water until he stops thrashing”.
