Former Detroit finance manager says Detroit could be broke by December

According to an article on MLive.com, Detroit’s former chief financial officer, Joe Harris, has told WJR-AM 760 that the city could be broke by December.

Harris criticized Mayor David Bing for not laying off employees when he took office, a move Harris says would help close the city’s $100 million budget hole. As a result, Harris said he wants to see the state appoint an emergency financial manager.

“What you need is a person that is in charge that is not making decisions based on the politics. Because you have no idea how much pressure is exerted by the unions. …You need somebodies who’s willing to be a one term mayor.”
