City council member in Southfield charged with bribery

By Todd A. Heywood | 07.06.09 | 4:47 pm

A Southfield City Council member, William Lattimore, has been charged with bribery in federal court.

According to the Detroit Free Press, which obtained U.S. District Court documents on the matter:

According to the documents, in August 2007, Lattimore “knowingly and corruptly accepted $7,500, intending to be rewarded and influenced in connection with his official duties regarding a business, transaction, or series of transactions of the City of Southfield, involving $5,000 or more.”

Lattimore has declined further comment, but the Free Press reports the allegations are linked to the bribery case of Detroit City Council member Monica Conyers, who announced her resignation last week after pleading guilty to conspiracy to commit bribery in late June.
