Monica Conyers’ political career likely finished following guilty plea

By Staff Report | 06.26.09 | 12:07 pm

In a still developing story, the career of Detroit City Council member Monica Conyers, wife of U.S. Rep. John Conyers, is essentially done. After pleading guilty to bribery charges Friday morning, members of the city council have called on their colleague, who could face five years in prison, to resign.

The council’s president, Kenneth Cockrel Jr., told the Detroit Free Press on Friday morning: “I think at this point a letter of resignation is probably moot. I think for all practical purposes, this is probably her last day on the council.”

Mayor Dave Bing, sent a dispatch out on his Twitter feed saying: “Detroit city council needs to heal, regroup and help me lead this wonderful city. Maybe this will start today?”

Will this affect her husband, Rep. John Conyers
Chairman of the House Judiciary Committee?

Liberals are angry over the way Rep. Conyers treated those who wanted Impeachment of Bush & Cheney, whose WMD Lies got over 34,000 US Soldiers Killed and Maimed FOR NOTHNG in Iraq. Does Conyers owe our soldiers an apology?

Rep. John Conyers (MI) portrayed himself as the leading advocate of Impeachment. The reality is Conyers stonewalled impeachment activists for seven years
and kept Rep. Kucinich's Bush-Cheney Impeachment Bills from ever being debated or voted on.

Conyers promised activists he would hold real hearings after the election. He didn't.

Conyers received an IMPEACHMENT PETITION With 1.1 MILLION SIGNATURES, which HE IGNORED, But HE HAD Those Activists Delivering It ARRESTED.

Conyers is on the board of Progressive Democrats of America but even they cannot get him to do his job.

Last week a Pelosi staffer said Rep. Conyers had her full support. Not surprising since after Pelosi took impeachment “off the table” Conyers kept it off his committee's agenda. Impeachment has to start in his committee. Conyers is said to be popular with Republicans. Again, not surprising.

    Now, about that Apology?
