Steelcase cuts more jobs

Grand Rapids-based Steelcase announced Tuesday that it will lay off 200 white-collar employees. The move comes as the office furniture maker released its first-quarter earnings report showing that while the company broke even, sales plunged 33 percent, according to The Grand Rapids Press.

The company has reduced its work force by 750 white-collar positions, and 600 hourly jobs since March 2008. It has also shuttered four plants. It continues to employ 4,000 employees in Grand Rapids, and 13,000 worldwide.
