Chrysler Group LLC, the new Chrysler/Fiat partnership that emerged from bankruptcy restructuring last week, has announced that it will reopen seven more American manufacturing plants — but only for a couple weeks before a planned summer shutdown. Automotive News reports:
Chrysler Group LLC said today it will restart seven of its North American plants the week of June 29. The plants have been closed since Chrysler filed for bankruptcy on April 30.
The plants will open to finish production of 2009 models and close for the previously announced summer shutdown the weeks of July 13 and July 20, the company said in a release. After retooling for the 2010 models, the factories will reopen — possibly on a staggered schedule.
Among the facilities to reopen on June 29 are the Sterling Heights Assembly Plant, which builds the Chrysler Sebring and the Dodge Avenger, and the Warren Truck Assembly Plant, which builds the Dodge Ram and Dodge Dakota pickups.
