DETROIT — One week after his communications chief suddenly resigned, Mayor Dave Bing appointed Karen Dumas, a public relations entrepreneur and journalist, as his interim public relations director according to an announcement from Bing’s office last week. But it was just a month ago that Dumas wasn’t that thrilled with Bing’s mayoral bid. In a blog post just before the election titled “State of Confusion,” she considered not voting for mayor at all because she was not impressed with Bing or his opponent, then-interim Mayor Kenneth Cockrel Jr.
Dumas wrote on her blog two days before the May 5 special election:
While I can’t imagine NOT voting, I can’t image WHO to vote for in the upcoming mayoral election on Tuesday. I may just vote, and just skip the mayoral question. I just can’t imagine…
Dumas served ex-Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick’s administration as director of community affairs and director of culture art and tourism. Dumas replaces Robert Warfield, Bing’s former communications chair who suddenly resigned without explanation two weeks ago.
