The Detroit Free Press repored this afternoon that Kwame’s been released from jail and that he’s met with his staff.
Only one problem: he didn’t resign.
You’d think by now that he’d catch a clue-by-four and realize that this cannot be good for his staff, the city, the state, his political peeps, his family. It doesn’t reflect well on anybody around him, and most of them have no choice in this situation but to tolerate his continued position as mayor.
Even having to post a bond for assault charges in relation to the texting scandal hasn’t shaken his possession of the title of mayor.
Have to wonder, though, if somebody’s tried yet again to get through to him today, to explain that staying on only prolongs the mess. It seems that Governor Jennifer Granholm performed the rare task of clearing her calendar this afternoon and was expected in southeast Michigan, according to sources well-acquainted with Granholm’s administration. For those of you not familiar with Michigan, hold your right hand up, palm towards your face — the governor is in the region below your thumb, above your wrist, which includes the greater Detroit Metro area.
Did Jenny have a heart-to-heart this afternoon with one person or several persons, to persuade them to move on with their lives and get Kwame to man up and exit?
A call placed to the governor’s office at 4:30 p.m. wasn’t returned before this post was drafted; we’ll check in on Monday morning. But maybe we’ll get lucky and Kwame will provide the answer to our question before then.
