Supreme Court lifts stay, allows Chrysler sale to close

By Ed Brayton | 06.09.09 | 9:04 pm

The U.S. Supreme Court lifted the stay it placed on the proceedings in the Chrysler bankruptcy yesterday, clearing the last obstacle to the sale of Chrysler’s assets to a new Chrysler/Fiat partnership. CNN reports:

The U.S. Supreme Court on Tuesday cleared the way for the sale of Chrysler to a consortium led by Italian automaker Fiat.

On Monday, the Court had delayed the sale, pending review of the merits of a case brought by the Indiana state pension funds, which argued that they and other lenders deserved better treatment by the bankruptcy court.

We can likely expect the closing of that sale to take place this week, which will allow the new company to move forward and open the factories in the next few weeks.
