The Associated Press is reporting that state lawmakers are preparing to vote to restore funds for various departments cut by an order of Gov. Jennifer Granholm on May 5.

From AP:

The House and Senate Appropriations committees will meet Wednesday to consider several budget transfer requests.

The orders would allow state departments to cut money from other programs and transfer it to programs that may have a greater need for cash.

The story goes on to note that the Michigan Department of Community Health has requested to restore funding to programs for mental health, HIV/AIDS and substance abuse. In addition, the Department of Corrections, the Department of Military Affairs and the Michigan State Police are also seeking fund transfers.

On May 5, with news state revenues were down 21 percent, Granholm announced an executive order to cut state spending by $304 million. Those cuts impacted the arts, the state police, local revenue sharing, and medical care among others.
