Michigan will get $7.4 million in federal stimulus dollars via the U.S. Forest Service to improve aquatic wildlife in state forests, U.S. Sens. Debbie Stabenow and Carl Levin announced Tuesday.
Among the projects approved for funding are opening streams that are isolated by artificial obstructions such as culverts and damns, improving drainage structures and conducting field work to design open passages for migrating fish and aquatic life.
Various state agencies will oversee spending on these projects including county road commissions, the Michigan Environmental Quality Conservation Resource Alliance and the Michigan Department of Natural Resources.
