DETROIT — Diane Bukowski, a reporter for the African-American owned Michigan Citizen newspaper, faces sentencing today after being convicted of felony police obstruction last month in a situation where she was arrested at the scene of a high-speed police chase crash in northeast Detroit last November.

Bukowski and others have labeled the prosecution as retribution for her previous reporting on police brutality and justice issues in Detroit, especially since one state trooper involved in her arrest admitted to destroying evidence from the scene. Despite these lingering questions, a jury — made up primary of white suburbanites — convicted her.

Today, Bukowski will be sentenced for charges of police obstruction. Bukowski has said in a statement that state troopers comitted perjury when they testified against her during the trial.

The sentencing will start at 9 a.m. in front of Judge Michael Hathaway, Room 501, Wayne County Circuit Court, 1441 St. Antoine in Detroit.
