Anti-choice Republican looking to flip swing seat in Michigan House

Monroe County loves the ladies: Democrat Kate Ebli, one of the county’s two female state representatives, will face Republican Jean Dahm in November.

Dahm, a former registered nurse who now owns a tech company with her three sons, won her primary Tuesday against Bob Beadles by a 2-1 margin. Ebli was unchallenged.

Ebli was first elected in 2006. She replaced Democrat Herb Kehrl, who died in office during his first term. The seat has trended Democratic in recent elections, and the district had a 58.2 percent Democratic base in 2006.

But the state legislature has garnered single-digit approval ratings in recent months, and blue-collar Monroe County is socially conservative, offering opportunity for Dahm.

Both parties are likely to spend heavily here: Dems will fight hard to hold the seat, but the likable Dahm, who has earned the coveted endorsement by Michigan Right to Life, is expected to work hard to take Ebli down.
