Bernero to host march and rally featuring Jesse Jackson

By Todd A. Heywood | 05.15.09 | 5:49 pm

Lansing Mayor Virgil Bernero has had it with what he calls “the Wall Street Agenda.” That agenda, he said, is costing American jobs, saddling students with massive debt upon college graduation and causing the foreclosure crisis.

“The American dream is under assault on all fronts,” the outspoken mayor said.

So how is he going to address it? With the help of Rev. Jesse Jackson, he along with numerous civic, religious and union organizations will host a June 1 march through downtown Lansing to a protest rally at the capitol.

“Something is wrong in Lansing and Washington,” Bernero said. “We want Washington to hear us.”

To do that, Bernero and his allies want to bring thousands of Michigan workers to Lansing to make their voices heard in the Reinvest in American, Keeping the Dream Alive! The event will feature an 11 a.m. march to the capitol for a noon rally.
