Bing to be sworn in as Detroit’s new mayor Monday afternoon

davebingMayor-elect David Bing will be sworn in as Detroit’s new mayor later today. The 3 p.m. ceremony will be held at the city’s Department of Elections office. City Clerk Janice Winfrey conduct the oath of office.

Bing will serve as Detroit’s third mayor in eight months after beating interim Mayor Kenneth Cockrel Jr., who is returning to his position as Detroit City Council president after being defeated in last Tuesday’s special election. That vote determined who will fill the remaining months of ex-Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick’s term. Bing will face re-election later this year to secure a full term, which will begin in January.
