Bing declared winner in Detroit mayoral election

The Detroit Free Press and the Associated Press have both called the Detroit mayoral race for businessman and former Pistons standout Dave Bing. With nearly all precincts reporting in, Bing leads interim Mayor Ken Cockrel Jr. by a 52-48 margin.

Bing will serve out the remainder of ex-Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick’s term. The winner of the August primary and November general election will take office in January to start a new full term.
