Senate Appropriations Committee moves Executive Order 2009-22 out of committee for floor vote

LANSING — In a vote of 16-2, the Senate Appropriations Committee voted to approve Gov. Jennifer Granholm’s Executive Order 2009-22, clearing a first hurdle to approving $304 million in state spending cuts, and moving to patch an estimated $1.3 billion budget gap in the 2008-2009 fiscal year, which ends in October of this year.

The order will now go to the Senate floor for approval. The House Appropriations Committee is expected to vote shortly to move the order out of that committee and onto the floor the House.

The committee held the vote following a joint session of the House and Senate Appropriation Committees in which State Budget Director Robert Emerson explained the governor’s cuts.
