DETROIT — With only three days until Tuesday’s special mayoral election, businessman David Bing and interim Mayor Kenneth Cockrel Jr. have this weekend booked with rallies and door-to-door canvassing.
To kick off election weekend each candidate scored big endorsements on Friday. Bing got the support from former U.S. Sen. Bill Bradley of New Jersey and the mayor of Sacramento, Kevin Johnson, both retired professional basketball players. Cockrel is now backed by the Council of Baptist Pastors of Detroit and Vicinity, a powerful endorsement in the Detroit community.
On Saturday, local leaders including U.S. Rep. John Conyers (D-Detroit) and Oscar King, the president of the Council of Baptist Pastors of Detroit and Vicinity, will rally for Cockrel at the Holy Spirit Cathedral of Faith in Detroit at 3:00 p.m.
Bing will also hold a “get out the vote” rally featuring Rev. Jesse Jackson at Bing’s campaign headquarters on East Jefferson Avenue.
