Despite evidence of the impact of mercury on children and public health, Michigan Attorney General Bill Schuette last month joined with 24 other state attorneys general in filing a lawsuit to scuttle new EPA regulations that would reduce mercury emissions from power plants.

Michigan announces six new probable cases of H1N1 in Ottawa county

Michigan authorities this afternoon announced that they have identified six probable cases of Influenza A(H1N1) in Ottawa county. The county is the location of Michigan’s second confirmed case of the virus, which until recently was called swine flu. The state’s first confirmed case was in Livingston County.

A probable case is one which has tested positive in Michigan Department of Community Health testing and has been forwarded to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta for confirmation tests.

The state continues to operate its State Emergency Operations Center (SEOC) and Joint Information Center to monitor the outbreak in Michigan.

    This is so alarming. I do hope that the authorities will strive on containing it and finding a means to put an end to it once and for all. And we, as regular people must not only sit idly but rather educate ourselves on its prevention and treatment as well as spread awareness.
