Transcript: Obama’s Lansing Center speech on energy

By Todd Spencer | 08.04.08 | 6:22 pm

Barack Obama made headlines across the country mere blocks from Michigan’s capitol building today when he announced plans that would end our nation’s reliance on foreign oil in ten years.

Falling short of Al Gore’s recent proposal to convert our nation’s electrical grid to 100 percent renewable energy (wind and solar) in ten years, the Obama plan was nevertheless more aggressive than anything so far put forward by the McCain campaign, which has also included renewable energy, green collar job development and conservation in a buffet-style approach to the energy crisis.

Obama also notably told the mid-Michigan crowd on hand that he would be open to limited offshore drilling if it were rolled into a compromise deal that would also include a windfall profits tax on Big Oil that could be used to further develop renewable energy.
