Grebner daily tracking poll: Cockrel pulling ahead in advance of Detroit mayoral election

mimsg_kcockreldbing-mforman-300x214With less than a week before next Tuesday’s special mayoral election in Detroit, the tide may be turning against the once-favored candidate, businessman David Bing.

A daily tracking poll from political consultant Mark Grebner — successful in estimating the winner of the February primary — is putting interim Mayor Kenneth Cockrel Jr. 9 points ahead:

For the last week or so, [Cockrel] and Bing have been trading good and bad days, leaving the situation in doubt. But with today’s 58-to-35 percent showing, it looks as if Cockrel may be pulling away.

There’s been more trouble for Bing in the press.

The Detroit News recently reported on new safety violations at two Bing Corporate Services manufacturing plants in Detroit. According to the report, Bing’s businesses have 10 violations from a 2007 inspection that have still not been addressed by the company.

Another Bing location was cited in March for additional compliance violation, including failure to pay annual inspection fees.
