Health officials: Ottawa county woman ‘probable’ swine flu case, Ingham investigating ‘several’ suspicious illnesses

The Michigan Department of Community Health confirmed a second probably case of swine flu in a 34-year-old Ottawa county woman. In addition, Ingham county health authorities say they are investigating “several” cases of suspicious illnesses they believe might be swine flu, say a report in the Lansing State Journal.

Two of the suspected cases in Ingham county concern Chief Medical Officer Dean Sienko because those persons have visited Mexico recently. The swine flu outbreak appears to have started in Mexico where it has been blamed on scores of deaths. Almost all the hundreds of U.S. cases have had connections to Mexico.

The Ottawa county woman’s travel history has not been released, but she was hospitalized for the illness.

The outbreak of the flu has health authorities around the nation and the world on alert. The World Health Organization, or WHO, announced yesterday it was raising the threat level of an international pandemic another notch.

President Barack Obama asked Congress to approve $1.5 billion in emergency funds to confront the illness.

    I’ve been telling this on and on. Swine flu is a product of media hype. What’s dreadful is dengue. Comparing to the number of affected people, dengue is always at number one compared to swine flu. Proper hygiene is the best remedy to all sickness I may say so.
