Detroit police spokesman Tate quits DPD job to run for City Council seat

The Detroit Police Department’s (DPD) second deputy chief James Tate, 34, announced Tuesday that he will be running for a seat in city council November’s general election.

According to the Detroit Free Press, Tate told members of DPD’s senior management team that he will be resigning after a five-year tenure as spokesman the department.

Tate, who said he’s running for City council because he feels it is his calling, already has a campaign website in place: http://jamestatefordetroit.com/

Tate’s name will be added to a crowded ballot for city council hopefuls in November 3rd’s general election.

Tate said he does not have a backup plan for work in case he doesn’t win in November.
