Despite evidence of the impact of mercury on children and public health, Michigan Attorney General Bill Schuette last month joined with 24 other state attorneys general in filing a lawsuit to scuttle new EPA regulations that would reduce mercury emissions from power plants.

Detroit News calls for review of police Taser policies

“A 2005 Government Accountability Office survey of seven major law enforcement agencies showed that they don’t consider the Taser to be a kind of firearm,” the Detroit News writes. “Perhaps they should.”

Two Michigan teens have died this year after being shocked by police Taser guns.

On April 10 Robert Mitchell, a 16 year-old Detroit resident with asthma died after running from and being shocked by Warren police.

According to the News, Mitchell’s family and the Detroit Coalition Against Police Brutality plan to meet with the Warren City Council and argue against Taser use by its police force.
