Kelly Blue Book, the largest company to track vehicle values, conducted a survey showing many people would not buy a vehicle from General Motors if it enters bankruptcy.

KBB Executive Director Jack Nerad released the data in an opinion column opposing bankruptcy for GM. The KBB survey of 500 people said 42 percent of new-vehicle buyers were either “not at all likely” or “not very likely” to buy a car from GM in bankruptcy. Even with a government-backed GM warranty, 40 percent gave the same opinion of buying a GM vehicle.

More people said they’d buy a GM vehicle if the company had to renegotiate contracts with suppliers and workers: 42 percent said they were either “very likely” or “extremely likely” to buy. About 32 percent said they would still not likely buy a GM vehicle.
