Oakland County Executive L. Brooks Patterson said Thursday morning that he will make a decision by Easter on whether to run for governor, The Grand Rapids Press reports.
During a speech at the Michigan Economic Solutions Summit at the JW Marriott hotel in downtown Grand Rapids, the 70-year-old Republican said he expects a run to cost between $15 million and $18 million. He also railed against the Michigan Business Tax.
“The economy is terrible. You can’t blame that all on [Gov.] Jennifer [Granholm], but clearly you can blame the Michigan Business Tax and the surcharge she fought for,” Patterson said according to The Press.
Among his potential GOP opponents are Attorney General Mike Cox, Secretary of State Terri Lynn Land and U.S. Rep. Peter Hoekstra (R-Holland). Patterson ran for governor in 1982, but lost in the Republican primary.
