Vice magazine (site contains some NSFW content) has a remarkable photo essay of images from abandoned schools in the city of Detroit. The schools, which were apparently supposed to be emptied and protected by a contracting company, have been vandalized and stripped of anything valuable, including practically anything with metal in it. Some of the pictures are truly incredible to see.
The photographer said he went into many abandoned schools in the city, finding “libraries full of books, computer labs upturned, art classrooms full of supplies, and administration offices filled with confidential and sensitive student records.” One picture shows boxes full of books about Martin Luther King literally rotting in a warehouse. I find the whole thing quite disturbing, but worth seeing for that very reason.
