Sigourney Weaver, famous for fighting aliens in blockbuster movies, is in Detroit filming a new special for Lifetime Television, and the production team is looking for 1,000 extras to film a parade scene at the end. It’s the latest example of films being shot on location in Michigan, which the state is hoping to encourage further with economic incentives.
The film, Prayers for Bobby, is based on a novel about a mother’s coming to terms with her gay son’s suicide. The mother is transformed from grief to action when she begins working with the parental support group Parents and Friends of Lesbians and Gays (P-FLAG). Weaver will play the mother.
Those interested in being extras can register online at Real Style Online. The positions are not paid. Producers have not yet announced the location or time of the shoot, but the website says the shoot will occur on June 17.
