Preview: Obama in Michigan today

By Staff Report | 06.02.08 | 6:52 am

Sen. Barack Obama of Illinois, the presumptive nominee for the Democratic Party, will be at Troy High School in Oakland County early this afternoon. The event may be the unofficial launch of Sen. Obama’s general election campaign as he is now approximately 46 delegates away from clinching the Democratic Party nomination, after Sen. Clinton’s win of Puerto Rico’s primary yesterday and ahead of tomorrow’s final primaries in Montana and South Dakota.

It’s anticipated that Sen. Obama will speak about party unity after the outcome of the Democratic National Committee’s Rules and Bylaws Committee meeting this weekend in Washington DC.  Obama is also expected to make a two-pronged pitch directed at the Democratic Party base, while addressing the concerns of the leaning-conservative area in and around Oakland County.

While tickets for today’s event are gone, Michigan Messenger will be reporting live from the site, with reporters covering the entire event beginning to end. Stick with us through out the day for in-depth reports, observations and interviews.
