This is part of a shift in strategy, towards new forms [...]

Google Maps captures EVERYTHING going on within range of its camera as it scans at street level for its “street view” service — including a deer-vehicle accident at close range. The driver of the scanning van was unable to avoid a fawn; the scan captured enough detail of the event that one can even see the spots on the fawn’s coat.

Apparently the fawn was able to get up and run off after the incident; you don’t need to get all sniffly about this poor little Bambi.

The scan was taken in New York State, which is as heavily populated as Michigan with white-tailed deer. You can feel for the poor Google Maps driver if you’re one of the more than 65,000 Michigan drivers who hit a deer last year — or the even larger number of us who had a deer run out in front of the vehicle but didn’t hit it.

The images of the accident have proven so popular, though, that Google Maps has removed them from their system. This might be the first time that a deer-vehicle collision took out mapping services; chalk one up for Bambi.

Think twice about whatever it is you’re doing on the street, by the way. If Google Maps can capture the spots on a fawn not much bigger than a German Shepherd, it’ll catch you wearing those nasty sweat pants while you’re getting the mail. Just saying.

damn! I was looking forward to venison veal, or Turnpike Tournadoes! I wonder what happened to their DNR's idea of giving the whitetail's contraceptives? I had a mental picture of Rambo with a rubber, stalking thru the forest primeval…or at least the 'burbs.

Google Maps provides high-resolution satellite images. But I have never imagined this. Too much. Too great. But one thing for sure, I will never go out in street.
