Sen. Levin announces plans to go after rising gas prices

LANSING — In a session with bloggers from around the state this morning at the Michigan Policy Summit, U.S. Senator Carl Levin (D-Detroit), said he will be giving a speech about rising gas prices and the Democratic plan to address them.

“We will be going after windfall profits and filling the petroleum reserve,” Levin said. “The sexiest issue, I think, is excess profits.”

Levin said a package of bills would be introduced to drive prices down. In addition, he said it is important for the presumptive Republican nominee for president, Arizona Sen. John McCain, and Democratic candidates Sens. Hillary Clinton of New York and Barack Obama of Illinois to vote on this issue.
