VIDEO: Bishop Robinson’s invocation here — and not on HBO

By Todd A. Heywood | 01.19.09 | 1:17 pm

Bishop Gene Robinson, an openly gay Episcopalian Bishop from New Hampshire, led an invocation at Sunday’s Inaugural event. The festivities included performances by artists Bono and Bruce Springsteen and was broadcast live on HBO.

Activists and supporters of the gay community responded with excitement to the announcement that Robinson would participate in the inaugural celebration; Robinson’s role was widely seen as a nod to them after the much earlier announcement that conservative pastor Rev. Rick Warren of Saddleback Church in California would deliver the actual Inaugural invocation for President-elect Barack Obama’s swearing in tomorrow. The selection of Warren angered much of the gay community due to Warren’s stance on homosexuality and same-sex marriage.

HBO did not broadcast Robinson’s invocation. However Bishop’s words were caught on audio and video; here’s a link provided by Christianity Today; the video can be viewed below.
