I purchased my home fall of '07only to be surprised when the entire year following I had huge stadium style lights all hours of the night, heavy machinery moving about, activity day and night and was only informed when the project wouldn't be finished "on time" that it was the installation of the slurry wall! I am concerned because my reasoning in buying this property was that it backed up to a city park and beyond the park their is a patch of wooded area and then another much larger park beyond that. I have 2 growing boys who would benefit from having some wildlife to explore opposed to the concrete jungle typical of the city environment. Now I am afraid to let them go play in these areas that actually border the slurry wall and are continuously filling during heavy rains etc. Does anyone have any insight into whether this poses health issues to my family? Also, there is a 3 filter water treatment system in the basement where the city water enters the house. I thought this was strange since we have city water. Could this mean the previous owner knew something and did not disclose? Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Good piece, especially after LSJ apparently blew it. They asked if it was in danger of leaking. They should have asked whether they ever had a leak or a spill.
And of course you took the additional step of checking with the regulatory agency if there ever had been a problem.
Careful with the picture, though. Yours depicts coal mining slurry, not an ash disaster.
