11:51 AM EDT – Michigan Messenger has learned that a petition drive based on a grassroots proposal outlining distribution of delegates between Democratic candidates will be launched this afternoon at progressive blogsite FireDogLake.

Marcy Wheeler, a grassroots Democratic Party activist from Washetenaw County, Michigan, laid out the proposed distribution at her blog Emptywheel and at MichiganLiberal.com.  The response from the Democratic grassroots and blogger community has been characterized as strong, encouraging Ms. Wheeler to set up a petition drive supporting the proposal.

Under Ms. Wheeler’s proposal, delegates selected during last Saturday’s congressional district convention by members of the Michigan Democratic Party would be seated at the Democratic National Committee’s Convention this summer; Michigan’s superdelegates would not be seated.

The petition drive comes at a time when known Clinton supporters like Michigan’s Governor Jennifer Granholm continue to call for seating of Michigan’s delegates according to the outcome of January’s early primary.

Watch Michigan Messenger for more details as the petition drive is launched.
