A second 18-year-old Lansing resident is facing charges in connection with a series of anti-gay graffiti that appeared in the city’s trendy Old Town district April 9.

Scott Patrick Saren, 18, has been arraigned on one count of felony malicious destruction of property, Lansing police spokesman Noel Garcia said. The charge carries a maximum of one year of jail time. Also charged in connection with the graffiti was Dustin Corey Green, 18, also of Lansing. Green was charged with one count each of felony malicious destruction of property, minor in possession of alcohol, and weapons possession for having a knife with a blade over three inches.

Saren turned himself into the Lansing police last Friday, April 18, and was arraigned on the felony charge.

The graffiti read “kill gays” and was painted on at least 10 buildings in the area north of the Capitol building. The area is home to two of the city’s bars that cater to homosexuals and is also filled with art galleries. The graffiti angered business owners. (http://michiganmesse…).

In response to the graffiti, Michigan Equality, a statewide lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender rights advocacy organization headquartered in Old Town, is working with the Old Town Mainstreet Association to clean up Old Town on Saturday, April 26. Anyone interested in helping is asked to come at 9:45 a.m.
