Two films shot in Michigan are released this month, some of the first fruits of last year’s increased film industry incentives offered by the state of Michigan.
First is Clint Eastwood’s “Gran Torino,” which opens Jan. 9. The film was shot in Detroit, and features actors from Flint and Detroit. It has been called “the Dirty Harry for the suburbs.”
Later this month, Lifetime Television network will premiere the film “Prayers for Bobby,” featuring Sigourney Weaver. The film is the story of a mother’s struggle to come to terms with her son’s homosexuality and suicide. It was shot in and around Detroit, including a day in suburban Detroit where a large gay pride parade sequence was shot. The film will premiere Jan. 24.
