Granholm says no to Obama cabinet post

By Ed Brayton | 12.18.08 | 8:42 am

AP reports that Gov. Jennifer Granholm has withdrawn her name from consideration for any post in the Obama administration:

“The governor has made it clear she does not want to be considered for an appointment at this time,” said Liz Boyd, a Granholm spokeswoman. “Whether she is being vetted or has been vetted is immaterial. What she really is interested in is working on challenges facing our state, namely growing the economy and creating jobs.”

Granholm repeatedly has said she is looking forward to serving as governor with a partner in the White House. But Wednesday’s statement was the strongest indicator yet that Granholm is planning to serve her final two years as Michigan’s governor.

This may end rampant speculation that the governor was on the short lists for a number of possible positions in the administration, including cabinet appointments.
